Including Visits to Newport’s Marble House and The Elms
Date: Saturday, December 7, 2024
Departure: 7:15 AM
Return: 5:30 PM
Price: $110.00
The summer homes of the rich and powerful in the 19th century and during the Beaux Arts period are an enduring monument to the taste and architecture of this time. The Preservation Society of Newport offers tours of ten stunning houses dating from the 18th century Colonial in the Point neighborhood to the 19th century Gothic Revival, Shingle style, and to the Beaux Arts ‘cottages’ of Bellevue Avenue. The properties managed by the Preservation Society of Newport County help illustrate the architectural diversity of Newport and the place of these houses in American History.
We’ll tour two of these properties beginning with The Elms beautifully decorated for the Holiday Season. We’ll break for lunch on your own in the harbor area and follow up with a visit to Marble House after lunch. After our tour, we’ll depart for home around 3:30 Pm.
Most of you have been to Newport, but this trip is going to bring you past the cobblestone streets and gas lights of the town to two celebrated icons of the Gilded Age. We’ll also head for the Newport waterfront for lunch where you’ll find an assortment of bars, diners, and formal restaurants along the Main Street and hugging the wharves. Great choices are the Black Pearl, Brick Alley Pub, Bowen’s Wharf Bar & Grille, Red Parrot, and any number of other eating establishments along the waterfront. After lunch we’ll meet at the Visitor Center where the bus will be parked and depart for our second tour. We hope you’ll love this quaint city.
Ticket price is $110.00 and includes deluxe motor coach transportation via Lizak Motor Coach and tickets to both tours. No meals are included. Seats are available on a first-come; first served basis. For more information, call Randall at (413) 436-5357 or email adventuretours@att.net. The trip will take place rain or shine.
