A Positively must-see Discovery Destination – a Prehistoric World
Saturday, July 20, 2019
Depart: 6:30 AM
Return: 8:00 PM
Price: $99.00
We’ll travel west just south of Albany for a visit to this part of New York. Our destination is the Schoharie Valley, home of Howe Caverns and dozens of other attractions.
Discovered in 1842 by Lester Howe, Howe Caverns is filled with winding passages and wonder every step of the way. A visit here offers a rare glimpse into a prehistoric world formed millions of years ago by an underground river which you can still see. Today, Howe Caverns is accessed via modern elevator. You will descend 156 feet below ground and follow the River Styx with your guide. You’ll take a quarter mile boat ride on the underground Lake of Venus before visiting the world-famous Bridal Altar, site of over five hundred weddings since the caverns were first opened in 1929. The tour takes about an hour and twenty minutes. Visit the interesting gift shop after your tour.
After our visit to Howe Caverns, we’ll head for Cooperstown. Cooperstown is a village in central New York State, at the southern tip of Otsego Lake. It’s known for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, with its interactive exhibits, artifacts and Plaque Gallery. The Farmers’ Museum depicts 19th-century farm life and includes craft demonstrations and a hand-carved carousel. The Fenimore Art Museum features American fine art and folk art, plus a garden with lake views. You can easily take an inexpensive trolley from downtown to any of these sites (ride all day for just $2 for an individual, $5 for a family!). Cooperstown also offers good dining and wonderful places to shop. You’ll love this quaint little town.
Ticket price is $99.00 and seats are available on a first-come; first served basis. Your trip includes admission and tour at Howe Caverns, deluxe motor coach transportation departing from Lizak Bus Service in Warren, and free time for independent exploration at Cooperstown, NY.
